T-Minus 22

Ah, Christmas time..

A season of Gift Giving, Family, Friends, Snow (in some areas), and endless Christmas tunes backed end to end over and over for thirty days.

At work the ladies in the office love Christmas. I don't have a problem with that. What I do find as something that constantly grates on my nerves for every day between Thanksgiving and Christmas is the endless Christmas tunes that are played over and over and over again.

Apparently it is now an actual law in some areas that any po-dunk singer, backwards band, pop has-been, or hardcore loser is forced to produce their own Christmas CD and force it on the masses.

I've got a newsflash for them:

If we don't like you before, then why do you think that we're going to like you belching out old tired holiday tunes at the top of your lungs?

Take Mariah Carey for instance. Today I actually started to froth at the mouth when that song "All I Want For Christmas Is You" came on the radio again. Today, I actually counted. In between 9am and 5pm, That song played SEVEN TIMES.

Seven Times?!?

Anyway, Don't get me wrong. I love Christmas.

I just wish that we could listen to something besides Christmas music.

Well...in any case. It's T-Minus 22 days until we're restored to listening to the dulcid tones of Michael Bolton, Elton John, and last, but not least...Prince.

Sometimes I think Helen Keller was lucky.

Mariah Carey's song is my FAVORITE! I don't hear it much, maybe that's why I'm not as... angry as you are. A few days ago that song came on just as I was getting home and I actually passed my house & went to Wal-Mart just so I could sing it! Oh, and btw, I've been playing Christmas music since September. Just ask my co-workers. Hehehehe.... but not a whole lot.. just a little here and there... "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..."

I feel your pain. All day every day they play the same God-awful Christmas CD OVER AND OVER at work!!!!!!! I LOVE Christmas music. Some of the songs I enjoy. Ok, so its pretty much only the Harry Connick Jr. songs. But the rest of them grate on my nerves. Especially that song "Baby it's cold outside"... one of the guys at my job is convinced that the song is all about the guy trying to "get with the girl" and I can't argue that. Seriously... they need to have people with TALENT sing these songs in a non-grating-on-your-nerves way. The world would be a much better place.

I love Christmas. I love Christmas music - just not *normal* Christmas music. I have a collection of oddball, off-the-wall Christmas tunes. My favourite line is, 'Last year all my parents got me was a trip to Mississauga'. (Mississauga's a suburb to the west of Toronto. Public transit'll get you there for $4.) Other songs include Dad Threw Up On Christmas Day, 'There Ain't no Sanity Cluse', 'Xmas At K-Mart', and Henry Rollins reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas'.

I'll stop now.
