The Empty Chair

Then, on Monday, I learned some bad news.
My boss's father passed away over the weekend. He was 76 years old.
To say it was sudden is an understatement. I met this man several times over the many months and years that I've been working for the company.
My first thought? He was just like my Grandpa. Same sense of humor. Come to find out, my Grandpa used to go hunting with him, and even lived next door to him!
Well, he's gone now. He passed away over the weekend, and his famous leather chair that his grandsons told me about will never be sat in again.
This has only inspired me to spend more time with my own grandparents. Think about it...when was the last time that you saw your extended family? Your aunt? Your Uncle? Are you telling yourself that it can wait until you're not busy?
We don't know when God will call us home. It could be tonight when I sleep that my heart stops beating, or tomorrow when I drive to work that I'm involved in a horrendous car accident.
Tim McGraw, a rather famous country music artist has a song out right now called "Live Like You Were Dying". The song is about a man who finds out that he's going to lose his fight with cancer, and starts living his life every day like it's the last one.
One day I'm going to lose my other grandfather, and his chair that he's had for as long as I can remember will never be sat in again.
I'm not going to wait until there's another empty chair in my family to spend time with the rest of them.
...After all. Tomorrow will allways be just that...tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about that. It's true you should take as much time for those you love as you can. Tomorrow being the perfect day to start. :)
I'm sorry to hear about that loss. I lost my uncle Friday. They said he killed himself, but now it's coming out that it may have been murder. It's a hard time of year to lose loved ones, even though anytime to lose a loved on is hard, it seems especially tough around the holidays. You're so right about living like you're dying. Thank you for the inspiration.
Sometimes the truth makes me fret. Sometimes I think it would be easier to be oblivious to reality.
