You Know More Than You Think

Where I work, besides being an advertising company, we also own a radio station. Anyway, the guy that used to take care of the station when it went down is no longer with our company. This means that I have to take care of it.
Having no experience in radio whatsoever, fixing the station when parts of it decide to go 'on vacation' is a daunting task. Ther are huge racks of equipment, 27,000 some odd knobs, and more lights than a Boeing 747 decked out like a Christmas tree.
Deciphering how everything works is like tracking a polar bear in the middle of a blizzard.
The Cableing nightmare behind the racks doesn't help, either. Whoever hooked up that stuff MUST have taken some type of Russian Basket-Weaving class. The wires are tangled, un-labeled, and mostly the same color. This makes finding the right cable like looking for the Rathergate fraud culprit - you know it's in there somewhere, but it's almost not worth digging it out.
But, I have to do it. Because the buck stops here. If it breaks - I'm the one who's gotta fix it. So, I try, and so far, so good. With the manufacturer on the phone, and asking questions, I'm starting to figure it out. It's not the funnest thing in the world - building tv commercials & dvd's are - but I'll get the hang of it.
